Shelter is coming around nicely !!

Finally there is something great to report and get excited about!!!

The pond was used more than ever this winter and with the tremendous efforts of Dave Wall and Keith Shand the ice was extremely well maintained. Keith and Dave even built their very own Zamboni (see Dave in action here). On any given day you could find several families out enjoying the weather and sitting around the makeshift fire-pit while the families skated on the pond or tobogganed down the hill.

Because of the heightened interest of being at the pond, the topic of building a shelter at that location came up and several people jumped on the idea. We scoped out a location and discussed what style of shelter should be built (at least as a concept building). After some additional discussion it was decided we would look at a basic open concept.        This is the basic design and will be modified as need be.

The costs are being looked at and a proposal will be submitted to the Board for their review and hopefully their approval to proceed. This will rely heavily on volunteers and  donation$ to make it happen (see Bergen Boys Icebreaker Cookhouse fundraiser below). Please check the Pond Shelter page for updated information. Also follow

NOTE: Please use the "Pond shelter" button at the top of the page will be used for future posts.

  Bergen Boys Icebreaker Cookhouse fundraiser!

In an effort to fund our future Cookhouse the Bergen boys have come up with a genius idea (in their minds) to raise funds with the least amount of effort possible. We should be amazed they have created an event somehow less exciting than watching paint dry. The what? Two(2) rocks have been placed on the Bergen pond ice. It’s your job to guess what day they fall through as the weather warms and the ice melts. March 22nd? April 4th? With only $5, your rock choice and the day you’ve chosen, you too can join in on this exhilarating contest. Andy at lot 12 will be in charge of the donations, and Sue at lot 13 will be in charge of the calendar. All of the prizes have been donated! Will the darker rock (Mosaic) absorb more sunlight, thus accelerating the melting of the ice underneath it? Or will the oblong rock’s (Alien) smaller surface area prevail? Only time will tell. Fascinating, exciting, incredible! The rocks were painted by Liam Ward and Oliver Well, third generation Bergen Boys Place your bets folks You can drop your money with Andy or e-transfer

suewells@shaw.ca
and message your guesses to Sue. Temperatures are rising so get them in before it's too late

UPDATE

Our Bergen Boy’s Icebreaker supervisor, Dave Wall, had declared walking on the ice an unsafe workplace due to global warming, Covid, Ottawa’s politics and the Suez Canal. The rocks have disappeared into the ice and have not sunk. We now have a new format, all the dates starting March 26th until the last date picked will be put into a hat and one will be drawn for each rock (Alien & Mosaic) next Saturday. Refunds are available if requested.
